Referring to the post-ICI Jetex pellets from Sebel, and those from Jet-X (Powermax), which I believe are dichromate formulations--are there any credible reports of successful Jetex or Jet-X flights with either of these propellants? Next week I intend to replicate the Sebel patent formulation, along with some compositions suggested by Dr James Taylor, using ammonium dichromate (NH4)2Cr2O7, an energetic oxidizer that happens to be toxic. I've never heard of a single successful flight with a Powermax Jet-X pellet. Edward

Edward,

The Sebel stuff works, no doubt about it. Much more grunt than anything else but at the expense of temperature which would make a steel bodied 50c glow cherry red in the dark. Lots of green residue left caked on the gauze.
On the subject of Roy Levers jet-x, the first fuel he released was charcoal grey/black with a dimple in the centre circle. It burned however with a sssssSSSSSSsssssssSSSSSSSSssssssssSSSSSSS fashion which also meant your model was sine waving through the sky. The pulsing was an irritant but at least it was SOMETHING.
Then the formulation changed to something that looked like compressed apple crumble which was harder to start but gave steady thrust and a wonderful fruity smell. Just after this there was a concurrent fuel called hi-thrust which looked like red clay and was also difficult to light. Compared to the Jetex fuels though, they were pants with a soiled gusset. Try not to dwell on that.

Andy.
