I was interested to read this thread as I have owned a 3D printer for a few years now, and whilst it has been great for making various components, the weight had put me off the idea of printing an entire model - I had not heard of LW PLA before. I will follow this thread with interest!
I was also amused to see the foam chuck glider jets - I picked one of these up at Weston Park some years back, thinking about an r/c pusher - which worked out rather better than I had hoped, see the video. The air museum where I work got some in for the shop, and I have a couple of damaged ones to play with...

An outstanding video! I will forgive this first offence of both R/C and a pusher on the forum ....

But back to 'Jetex' and away from the 'Dark Side', Andre Bird experimented with these really rather nice foam chuckies couple of years ago. His F-18 F-18 had two Rapier L-2 motors mounted on the top. Andre said it flew well. :woohoo:

His F-15 and F-22 were rather more sophisticated:

All they need is a bit of rubbing down, a couple of coats of paint and proper livery. The new TSP L-2L motors should suit these large models well.

An interesting winter project.

Thank you for letting me off, I promise not to do it again!

Just don't make it any worse by turning up with an undecorated profile model.
Roger has access to a Bofors gun...

I have finally found the photos of Andre Bird's F-22 Raptor. I took these at Old Warden in 2016. Andre assured me that it did fly; the photos of the motor instillation show that the moulded foam plastic needs to be well insulated from motor exhaust:

as you can see, Andre was using a Rapier L-3 - the import being that this is quite a large and heavy model (as 'Jetex' models go).

So that's the 'bad' news. The good news is that we noew have some very nice TSP L-3 motors that would suit these 'chuckies' very well. :)

At a price, mind, but quality never did come cheap!
