The 9“ span profile Folland Gnat is now looking quite smart and I’m pleased with the way this simple kit has come out despite my efforts to convert it to Rapier/TSP power.

The second pic shows it alongside my Hawker Harrier to compare the 3D effects, hand painted on in the case of the Harrier whereas the Gnat has to rely on the modest curves on the fuselage edges and nose.

Inspired by Howard's model, I acquired my own Gnat from the Balsa Cabin. The kit is everything Howard said - nice wood and vibrant graphics. These I have scanned so they can be, after some manipulation and refinement, printed on tissue, light paper or heat transfer medium before being applied to my own balsa sheet.

I aim to build my Gnat like a Veron Quicky, probably for TSP L-1. It will be a good companion for Luke's Red Arrow's Hawk.

Above: Luke's Hawk. The position of the motor is contary to 'received wisdom' but since it flies so well, I'm tempted to copy this!

We saw Howard's Gnat at Old Warden's 'Mayfly, where it flew in a spectacular fashion and Howard was lucky he didn't loose it!

I shall have to make one, but I'll power it with a TSP L-1, not an L-2! B)
