Sorry not to have been on here for a while (thanks to house renovations) but this is one of the models I managed to start and not quite finish in 2014. It is a Grumman Cougar from Andy Ray’s plan for Rapier L2 power, the build was rather tricky as you had to make the wings first then incorporate them into the fuselage halves as you went along.

There were no notes on the plan so I built it the only way that seemed feasible at the time, probably not right but it came together OK in the end.

Whenever I can get round to making the correct canopy I will cover it but I’m still not sure of the colour scheme yet.

Let's hope I can finish before the flying starts in 2015, Happy New Year everyone.

Howard

Hi Howard,

very very nice, seems a pity to cover all that beautiful woodwork! As to colour schemes, there are quite a few to choose from, I found out when designing my semi-profile version. There are many useful illustrations out there on Internet sites B). Hint: do not do a Google search on 'Cougar!

When I'm able, my next model may be a Corsair II or a Crusader. These will be a follow on from the Tiger, which, astonishingly, flies well.

I have sent Tom a copy of the plan. Howard has has been flying his Cougar at Middle Wallop this year and has promised an update on this rather tasty model.

Above: a fine shot of Howard's model in flight.
Howard remarks it flew at OW in October 'better than he remembered' so I hope he will add some paint and decals :) .

The Cougar spans 12.75 inches, the numbering of the formers on the plan is incorrect, note that former shown as '1.5' should be former 2, 3 should be 4 etc. On the underside of the model I made some 'doors' that push in easily to give a better launch grip, the spring on these is cut from R/C mylar hinge material.
