TOPIC: New Models for 2020

I usually like to post in one thread to keep all the information together but since this thread is so active I thought I would join in the fun!
After the success of my DH Swallow, 'someone' suggested the DH Vampire would make a great follow up build. I accepted the suggestion and got to it with a plan provided by same. It wasn't a complete plan - more of an unfinished project so I got to drawing up the missing pieces and did a test build to see if my CAD skills were up to it and accurate enough. Luckily, eveything went fine and the parts fit together perfectly so the test wing I made will now be the right wing and I will continue the build.

The wingspan is 17" so I hope for another pocket rocket, much to the dismay of those whom have a hard time tracking such a small model no doubt.

Here is the wing half ready for final sanding, which I will do later into the build.



Roger adds: this is great inspirational stuff ... after Dave has finished his Vampire, I have a Hawker Hunter for him to try. That might slow him down a bit!

There are times - a few times- when OCD is an advantage: adding detail to your latest jet is definitely one of them. Armed with a selection of fine acrylic-friendly brushes (thank you Ruth) and my magnifying visor on my head I painted the Tiger's shark teeth motif. I was not too displeased with the result, but I have made a vow: NEVER AGAIN!





Above: perhaps decals would have been a better way of doing this, but the curves are a barrier to getting a smooth result. This isn't too bad, but I can now see where the 'stand off' scale guys are coming from.

All the other decoration - letters, numbers, insignia etc. will be decals, which means a couple of days in front of the computer doing things with Paint Shop Pro 9. Oh joy!!!

The next model will, for sure, be something from The Vintage Model Company - they do include a set of decals/transfers in the box, don't they?

Looking very good, I did a shark's mouth on a Guillows P40 back in the 70's by hand too, tedious but well worth the effort.

Frisk film is (or maybe was!) a masking medium for airbrushing, a low tack easy to cut self adhesive film, as I am 'old school' it has probably been replaced by something more modern. I have often used the adhesive portion of a 'sticky note' instead as it is quite convenient for small jobs.

Thought I would add some structural strength to the Vampire while simplifying constructing the ducting.
0.4mm wall thickness. In the printer now. Only 5 hours left....
