I greet you all from the Czech Republic
my english is very bad, i use google translator, sorry

I'm a big fan of rocket flying, I have little experience with Rapiers

a few years ago I bought a Me-163 Komet Klima and D3-P rocket engines with which very effective flying!

a few days ago I bought a complete line of Tender engines and used an L-4 for the Comet

I am attaching a video from today's first flight with TSP L-4 very successful, I am very happy! Great flying!

I also have an Iskra model, but minor problems with flying, the L-2 HP engine too powerful and wild! I used L-2 and much better flying! the end of the flight failed, but the OK model for the next flight

Hi Rex,

welcome to jetex.org and it's good to have you on board!

Do not worry about your English as I can always 'tidy it up' if the meaning is not clear. :)

The RC Me 163 with is most impressive. As you have found, free flight rocketeering is rather different and needs a whole new skill set. But you have made a good start.
Luke Goymour has some excellent advice on sorting out the TSP Iskra. Essentially:

1. CG moved to 75% from LE (this may be able to be adjusted now with the thrust tab in place and moved back, but whilst the model is flying consistently I am loath to change it!)

2. Thrust tab, adding down thrust behind the motor

3. Ailerons cut out and at least 1/16th wash-out added to each tip.

Luke's posting, with photos and a video, can be found here:

Trimming the Iskra

So, if you make these modifications to your lovely Iskra I'm sure you will get some great flights! :cheer:

good morning from the Czech Republic

I want to share another good flying experience with you!

last night I had an idea: in the workshop I saw my flying wing, called Variante75 (span 75 cm) which is made of Depron.

I said to myself, "It will be good for flying an L-1"

I made everything I needed, a mount for the motor and foil heat shield and I estimated the angle of inclination of the motor according to other plans of flying wings with a rockets

today I flew and it demonstrated a beautiful, calm, steady flight,to a height of about 8 meters and then calmly sliding back to the ground, landing at a distance of about 50 meters from the start. :cheer:

A more powerful L-2 engine will be an advantage!

Very bad [of me] without a colleague with camera. Very beautiful flying!

see below photos after the flight. The model's details: span 75 cm, starting weight 33 grams, plan: jivaro.com

That looks very nice, can we have a plan please?
Very curious that the model flies well as it would seem that the engine is mounted so as to give up thrust. With an L2 in that position it may well try to loop all the time. Hope I'm wrong of course.
A higher position above the wing would avoid melting the foam and provide down thrust. It may not look so pretty though.

Roger adds:

a 75 mm wing span and a weight of 33 grams is quite large and heavy for a TSP L-1 (100 mN thrust). As Howard opines, it will be a lot more lively with an L-2! I have seen guys flying models this size with a L-3 - flying wings are a lot of fun but can be quite trick to trim out.

Any thoughts to fitting radio control to the model? As Howard says, it's very pretty, rather like a Horten, in fact.

File Attachment:

File Name: variante_75_plan_2022-05-23.pdf
File Size: 360 KB

here is the Variante 75 plan
originally an electric motor at the back and RC control, I don't have a small engine, I left it as a free glider and now with a rocket engine, I will experiment with other more powerful engines, I think ideally L-2 and L-2 HP, and I will have time and good weather
