Thank you Roger,
as a matter of fact the Skyray is exactly what I bought for some gliding and free flight tests inclusing the ptoper motors to use :)
Converted some free flight models to RC. Last build was a Bf-109 from vintage model company which resulted in an all up weight of roughly 48 grams .
Will have a look in the two threads but I dont want to be too heretical ;)

Roger adds:
Please feel free to be as heretical as you like! The Skyray is an excellent choice and the basic plan, or templates of the original jetex.org design are in our plans section). These can be enlarged for an L-3 or L-4 and the fuselage construction modified so that internal R/C can be fitted. :)

rogersimmonds wrote: As to where to put the motor, the 'conventional wisdom' is that side mounted 'one shot' motors are not advisable. Balsa fuselages were easily protected from the comparatively cool exhaust from a side mounted Jetex motor. But Rapier and TSP motor exhausts are a lot hotter and dirtier; at best, the fuselage will only be scorched and warped, at worst the model will be set on fire. :S

Ah yes, I'd forgot we'd had that conversation.

McTschegsn wrote: Good morning,
my first post :) Thank you for having me here. My names Chris and I am mostly into RC modeling building some micro models in the past. I stumbled over the new TSP motors as they are available in germany too now. I just found out about the TSP profile planes and ordered myself a Skyray with some motors.

Long term goal is to fly radiocontrolled microjets with rocket motors. Ill just start to get used to that with the free flight planes.
I just wonder whether there are some flying videos showing the TSP models?

Yes, we must get together on this. I have a Klyma Me163 sat waiting for a Tendera motor and installation of radio control.

Good morning.
Heres she is. Still a profile plane but a Skyray anyways. I think it is the right choice for the first rocket model after ages. Just curious how this flies. The kit came very well together and makes a good first impression to me. Very complete for a beginner.

One question is left about the flap at the bottom fuse to divert the thrust angle.
Is there any rough advice which angle is good to start with? a steeper or more shallow one?
My tab is 15 x 20 mm as advised in the manual.

Sure we can. On the funny side: I have a male plug almost ready for making a mould for a Me-163 in grp. Lies around here for ages and got dusted off. Originally flown with electric motors, wingspan 700mm approx. Maybe I can see if I can get a light model for rocket power when the mould ist ready.

Feel free to get in touch if you want to know more. Whereaboiuts are you located in germany?

Hi Chris,
thank you for posting progress with the Skyray. Perhaps you and Terry could liaise 'off forum' to start with and we will then start a forum thread dedicated to 'RC Rocket Planes. A very exciting prospect!

Anyhow, back to the TSP Skyray. Your model is looking good. As to the size and angle of a useful thrust tab, below is my prototype Skyray, built ten or so years ago for a Rapier L-2HP:

Above: my original skyray: note the 'fleshed out' fuselage, hinged rudder and elevons and the angle of the thrust tab. These refinements are well worth doing to the basic TSP kit!

Note the angle of the thrust tab. The thing is, as it is metal and maleable, it can be bent to a wide range of angles in response to the model's trimming flights. If the model loops inder power, bend the tab down; if it is slow to climb under power, bend it up. This assumes, of course that the CG is in the right place, the model glides from a hand launch DEAD STRAIGHT and the elevons are at the correct angle of 'up'.

I can't remember if the TSP Skyray has hinged elevons and rudder. If not, please fit them as they are a nery useful trimming aid!
