TOPIC: Profile F-15 Eagle for L-2

Here are a few comments, the two dotted lines appear not to be parallel, I presume they are meant to be although the real aircraft does taper a bit in the opposite direction but no one will notice.
The rear of the engine covers just before the exhaust outlets curve differently to the real thing, my drawing attached is a bit more like them.
I assume there needs to be a notch in the top fuselage plate to receive the fuselage nose piece.
Just for interest here is the underside of the HMM F15 slope soarer that I carved the moulds for, way back when. The F-15 is a complicated but beautiful aircraft (the real thing I mean).

Ha Ha, about the size of the original wartime Jetex target drone, so it would need a BIG motor.

Rob Smith and I have been refining the plan ready for publication. Below is a 'low res' copy for your comments. If anyone would like to build an F-15 from the draft plan, correcting if necessary during construction please tell me and I'll send you a printed copy.


The coloured templates will also need some refining.

I have at long last managed to finish the new F-15. It took me forever, working from Rob’s plan for the AeroModeller, but I was pleased everything fitted together nicely. I opted for a paint finish and had fun making the decals.



I’ll try some glide test at our local recreation ground. when it's a bit warmer!
Now I have to write the Aeromodeller article to go with it ….

The Aeromodeller article about the F-15 duly (but, I hope, not dully!) written and sent off.
There being a nice very light breeze and a nice unfrozen playing field nearby, I was able to try some trimming from a hand launch. With just a tad of right rudder and a 2.8 grams nose weight it glided straight and well. There was no need for any trim tabs on the wings, which at least shows I'd glued everything together more or less accurately.

The actual glide is really quite good (there is a fair bit of wing area, equating to 8 oz/sq/ft wing loading).



This is about as good as gets from a hand launch. When my local proving ground dries out a bit, and if it stays calm and not too cold, I'll try the F-15 with a 170 mN TSP L-2.
