Firstly my name is Guy and I am from West Sussex- hello to you all

I have a Jet-x Z engine which I have read is a pretty poor performer and a bit heavy. I did try a flight with a profile hawker hunter design but didn't have much luck. Is there a model design that this motor would be best suited to or am I likely to struggle with the poor motor power to get aloft. Has anybody had any luck getting flights out of this engine or is it simply a dud?

Sorry but I can't remember which particular motor this is but unless it has a steel body the casing will probably burn through and leave a hole where it is suppose to seal against the gasket. This can destroy your model if the leaking exhaust plays on it. Many find the fuel very hard to ignite so if you have succeeded well done, the fuel does work however and in a Jetex 50C all steel motor and is fine, they are occasionally available on Ebay. An enlarged Jetex Wren is a good starting point, Bill Dean's enlarged Spook or a Jetex Sharky, both on the website, have a search around.

Hi Guy,
nice to have you aboard! The Jet-X Z (and all of this ilk) has, as you suspected,a poor reputation. Modellers I have met on the flying field have, like you, struggled with them. T help them, I would put in a 'one shot' motor in place of their unit, and then bask in their delight at having (finally) had a successful flight with that Hawker Hunter or whatever.

Howard is right - if you want to fly 'Jetex' get yourself a genuine Jetex 50 and pellets on eBay. Or, if you want an easier route to jet flying, buy a pack of Tender L-2s!
