Here is my build log for the DH 108 Swallow from Steve Bage's jetex plans that I am modifying into an R/C 20mm EDF fan set up.
I did start this a long time ago but life as always got in the way but I have made time to get back into it again. I bought a laser cutter (K40) last year and finally got to use it, cutting the second fuse half parts out.

I couldn't wait to do a test fit of the fan the moment I had two halves. :)

Here's a video of the fan running:

Good stuff, looking forward to the flight video.

Roger comments: this is just splendid, Dave, and I love the sheeted wing roots . I presume this is for RC? Like Howard, I look forward to the flight video, but also to photos of the finished model. It's been quite some time since we had EDF on the forum! :)

Dave,
I watched the video, and was impressed how you took such care to balance the EDF unit , the method you used and how much quieter the unit became thereby. What has tended to make me shy away from micro EDF has been the noise - these things screaming away at 60K rpm really puts me off. You have shown, however, that these units need not be so noisy, though getting them balanced is, by all accounts, quite an exercise where OCD is a big help!

I might have missed it on the video, but is there a recording of the actual static thrust of the unit? And how does this relate to the watts?
I really would like to know! :P

Hi Roger,
Specs for the home made 3D Tevo printed fan unit are:
Weight 6g
Using a 15,000kV 0703 outrunner
The prop is a cut down quad copter blade from one of the tiny models now selling in China
Static thrust: 26g
E-Flux: 55.5km/h
Amp draw: 2.9A on 2S

Yes, balancing is important as well as the right ESC. The switching frequency of the ESC can make the motor make a really annoying scream - I know what you mean.

I'm starting on the wings now. I have all the pieces cut ready to start construction. :)

I'm up to carving a nose, right intake and a canopy plug now. :)
