MIDGET 50
Description: Reprinted from Model Aviation (UK), Feb. 1950 (p. 20)

Second prize at the '49 I.C.I. contest went to Clive Hadland who flew this Jetex 50 powered design. Clive's two flight aggregate was 5 : 21 and he used a releasable wing D/T.
Winners, 1949 ICI Jetex Trophy All up weight is only half an ounce – one of the main reasons for the good performance. The original tailplane was made entirely of 1/16" x 1/32", but we have strengthened this up a little for general flying.

Building Instructions

Building time for this project is just one evening. Make the side frames – from 1/16" sq. – flat on the adjoining plan. Notch Formers 2, 3 and 5 on to the 3/16" sq. mount. Join the two frames by means of Formers 1 to 5. Insert the cross braces with a pair of tweezers. Attach the 1/16" side pieces and pull in at the nose – then cover this portion with 1/64" sheet, top and bottom. Screw the jet clip in position and box in forward of the jet unit with 1/32" sheet.
Trace the wing tip and reverse for the right hand tip. Build the flying surfaces flat on the plan and cover the entire model with lightweight tissue. Attach the flying surfaces with rubber bands. No ballast weight should be needed. Trim for glide by packing the tailplane T.E. or L.E.
