FIZZLE BUG
FIZZLE BUG |
Description: |
Reprinted from Model Aircraft, March 1955, p.104
Fizzle-Bug was designed by Ian Dowsett, a highly competent free-flight modeller, and published in the March 1955 edition of Model Aircraft. The design was way ahead of it's time in that it is still very competitive today.
WELL-KNOWN JETEX FLYER Ian Dowsett DESCRIBES HIS QUICKLY BUILT MODEL WITH A CONTEST PERFORMANCE POWER—50B UNIT
Although of functional outline, Fizzle-bug is a high performance contest model. Building is straightforward. Begin by cutting and sanding the flying surfaces to correct shape, and making fuselage from limewood or very hard balsa.
Cement the wings at the correct dihedral, then cement the tail unit to the fuselage, also adding the front fuselage fairing. When the wing is set, cement into position, together with the motor pylon. Give complete model one or two coats of thin dope.
No nose weight should be required and flying trim is achieved by bending the trailing edge of the tail plane up or down. For power flights, use right rudder. First get your glide circle correct and then try short power flights with straight thrust. Model should have a straight climb under power, going into a right-hand glide. |
