DH108 SWALLOW
DH108 SWALLOW |
Description: |
My latest plan is anything but a new design... based on a model that Roger Simmonds built a few years ago which was in turn based on an original plan by DP Golding, published in 1952.
The model is scaled down to 15.5 in span to suit Rapier L2 power. The motor itself is trough mounted unlike the internal location where Golding put his Jetex. I've also tweaked the fuselage shape a little to accurately match the full size aircraft. The wing construction and wing section remains as Golding intended with the addition of moveable 'elevons' to aid trimming.
Hopefully despite the changes the design retains the character of the original 1952 Golding design. The original plan was based on the 2nd prototype of the DH.108, however I like the sleeker look of the 3rd and final version with its low profile canopy and more pointed nose cone so I included options for both on my plan.
I enjoyed draughting the plan enormously, the design of tailless aircraft poses a whole new set of challenges. |
