TOPIC: Yak-17W, profile, depron

Another variation on the Yak-17W. In Poland the plane was called... Agata. The only preserved aircraft of this type is in Poland, in the aviation museum in Krakow. This time the model was made of Depron foam: 5 mm fuselage, 3 mm wings and fins. The model was painted with water-based acrylic paints diluted with... vodka. I had to choose the right color - sources indicate that planes of this type were painted in an unusual gray-blue color. Motor tube with a cone printed on a 3D printer. Engine by Tendera Motors, TSP L2. The empty model weighs 8.5 grams. With 17 grams motor. Flight soon.

A small update. A few flight tests. I have constructed a catapult for models of this type. With children in mind. The catapult works perfectly, the model still needs some work.

Well it flies, which is good, but it is obviously very overpowered. Were you using a standard TSP L-2 or a TSP L-2HP?

A Standatd TSP L-2 nozzle can be drilled out to reduce the rhrust. Have you tried this?

We are hoping to develop a TSP L-2 LT with a thrust of around 110 mN for 25 sec which might be 'just right' for models of this sort.

In the meantime, you could try (a) a TSP L-1 (100mN) thrust.

Mainly it was about testing the catapult and launch system. It works perfectly. I used the TSP L-2 in the model. The balanced model flies ok in free flight with a burnt out engine, worse in engine flight. Maybe the problem lies in setting the angles of the wing and horizontal stabilizer. However, at the moment the model is so worn that there is not much to adjust... Depron on the wings and horizontal stabilizer is ok, but the fuselage is definitely too thin and breaks - I have to fix it. The plan is to cut the model on a thermal plotter and build it by children from "kits". Maybe I will have to think about completely changing the concept to some motor glider. The model has to fly beautifully and reliably so that the children are not disappointed.
