TOPIC: Snowflake II Flies Too Well

This morning I tested my new lighter models for the TSP L1 jet motor. First I tried the plane made out of E20 parts. First launch the motor burned the rubber band across the wing and the wing popped up. So I put tape over the band, it could still come loose in front when burned by the fuse. I launched again and the plane did an arc into the ground, the thrust must not be angled correct as test glides looked good.
Next I try the Snowflake, covered the rear part of bands with tape so as not to burn. I gave it a launch and it did a corkscrew upwards that was perfect but now it is really high. Circles looked good but a slight stall. I just watched it fly in awe and then try to watch in my binoculars but I was too late as I could not spot it again. I searched for a long time, looked at all the roofs and tress but nothing.
Now the fuse was smoking but not really seeing red, that could have failed. Maybe the wing hinge bound up or maybe popping up the front of the wing is not effective enough for such a light airplane.

The plans do not show the DT in any detail and a better method is needed that does not burn the bands. Maybe I should pop the entire wing off like with P30.




I am so happy with this design, not many pieces and I did a poor job of constructing this one. From what I have learned I think I will build at least two more as I can see losing such a small plane can be easy and too small for a locator.
