I am building a kk SkyJet 50.

But which motor should I use. I have 4 to go at.
Left side one is of a different design. The other 3 are the same.
Does it matter?
This is my first attempt with these most intriguing items.
Many thanks
Phil.

My preference would be keep the two aluminium motors bottom left and right and use the bottom middle steel motor. Getting the gasket to seal is the real trick with any of these motors to get full power and cause the least damage to motor or model. The newer top motor works fine but as it looks new still I would keep it in reserve, the black fuel in that pack is usable but hard to ignite. Others may have different views, good luck and welcome to the fold.

I have pellets that are redder in colour in a blue plastic pack.
Will they still be usable after all these years?

Yes they should be, the old advice was to keep them in the airing cupboard to keep them warm and dry!! Some pellets were coated to prevent moisture getting in.

Hi Phil,

welcome aboard, and I concur with Howard's sage advice. Flying with genuine Jetex can be done, but it ain't easy!

The blue pack of pellets are the later Sebel type. These burn hotter than the original ICI formulation and should not be used with the two aluminium-bodied motors as they could burst.

Original ICI pellets are out there but they are rare! As Howard says, keep the alloy motors and (at least so start with) use the steel bodied motors.

I would but the black Powermax pellets on the roses - I think they are a waste of time. :S

To seal motors, you can add a smear of silicone sealant to the washer.
There is a video out there about loading motors, see:

Loading Jetex motors

One problem us vintage Jetex fliers have is old fuse. This is now quite rare and doesn't always work. A modern alternative is an electric igniter:

These work well and I have them in stock.

Thanks,
What’s the price for the igniter?
