Can anyone please advise which TSP motors would be most suitable for the Excalibur - see plan and article attached?

I built one years ago with a Jetex 50c, but it was underpowered. I'm thinking it would be good to use 2x TSPs in the wing nacelles, in total giving the same power as maybe a Jetex 100? So I need advice re. which size TSPs would give me that?

Also much appreciate advice about how to mount the motors in the nacelles so they're secure and safe, and can be swapped out between filghts?

Many thanks for any help with this.

Hi Richard, one TSP L2 or (Rapier L2HP - if you have any) in place of the Jetex 50C should be fine for this model as they are nearly 50% more powerful than the 50C (at its best). I would not bother with two motors unless you are a masochist, nothing but trouble getting both motors to light at the same time. Keep it light under 35g all up ready to fly and it should fly fine. Show us any build, completed model pics or best of all, a flying shot. Good luck

Thanks for that, AH - very much appreciated.

I'm sure you're right about going with only a single fuselage-mounted motor - KISS is invariably best. And just to confirm that you are recommending the TSP L-2 as opposed to the TSP L-2 HP? Would the latter deliver too much power for the Excalibur?

Also, any thoughts about how to mount the motor, so it can easily be swapped over between flights (and also, of course, so it doesn't set the model alight)? Is there some ersatz equivalent to the trusty old Jetex mounting clip that I can get, or make?

Again, your help greatly welcomed. All best, RR.

If you build it heavier than 35g all up, the TSP L2HP might be a good option but try it on the L2 first, using the lower power to trim it out is always a good idea anyway. My BAE Hawk drawing here www.jetex.org/jetex_plans/details.php?image_id=246 shows how to mount the motor. On high wing and low motor set ups such as this the angle of down thrust of the motor and down thrust tab, shown on the Hawk, might come in useful, motors more powerful than the Jetex 50C it was designed for, might make it loop.

Thanks, Howard, I'll go with the TSP L-2.

Re. the Hawk plan, I can see the thumbnail but for some reason the Download button is greyed out and the thumbnail details are blurred. I'ved tried logging in again but still the same. Is there a trick to downloading the plan so I can see exactly how the mount is made?

Sorry I don't know why that won't work for you, here is a screen grab of the plan.
