Roj Reese is building one of the very first Jetex Scale kits:

The Veron F-84 Thunderjet was designed by Phil Smith for the then-new Jetex 50, way back in (gulp!) 1950.

It didn't look too much like its full-size prototype, was rather large for the limited 1/2-oz thrust of the motor and was more poular as a hand-launched model.
Nevertheless it's a 'classic' design is well worth reviving and should fly lot better with the extra thrust of a modern TSP L-2HP motor.

Forum member Roj Reese has a Replikit model on his building board, and trusts it will go well with a TSP L-2HP, which have more thrust than an old Jetex 50. One problem Roj spotted in the plan was that the wings and tale appear to be set up at '0-0'.

This is just asking for trouble and he is going to change the wing's angle of incidence to a more practicable +2.5 degrees.

Above: Roj is building from an old Replikit, which had rather better wood than the 1950's balsa of the original Veron kit!

Roj sensibly started with the built-up fuselage. He noted and corrected a few errors in the plan and parts and decided a bit of extra 1.5mm sheeting would be no bad thing. :cheer:

Above: Roj comments, " Fuz almost complete just the holes for the wing locators to be cut out (at the new 2.5° incidence.)".

Roj was now much happier with the look of the fuz. He moulded a new canopy using the venerable 'heat clear plastic and thrust method'
described on Mike Stuart's website. His only worry at this stage is that he's not adding too much weight!

More later!

According to the Thunderjet's designer, Veron's great Phil Smith, to change the angle of incidence from his '+1.5 degrees' to a more practicalble =2.5 degrees, the bottom of the wing (which is of Clark Y aerofoil section) needs to be set at + 1 degree with respect to the tailplane.

I hope this will be enough to give Roj's Thunderjet benign stalling characteristics.
